Eleanor VEALE received 80 pounds of tobacco for her attending two days at court to prove the will of Jeremia JADWIN.

p. 85a, 26 June 1700
The sheriff was to bring “Ellenor Veale, now Eleanor Smoot” to the next court to answer charges of perjury brought by John TANNER. (This was regarding her signing as a witness to the will of JADWIN).

John Henmore received 400 pounds tobacco for attending court and giving testimony in the case of John TANNER against Ellenor VEALE als. SMOOT.

“Elizabeth (sic) Smoot confessed judgment to Thomas Marson for seven hundred pounds of Tobacco due by bill from Wm. Smoot her deceased husband. Ordered she pay the same to the said Thoms Marson with costs.”

p. 173, 30 Aug. 1711
“Lawr: Smith, late Sheriff of York County brought suite against William Trigg and declared against him for an escape by the defendant made from the County Goal of York to the damage of the plaintiff fifty pounds sterling & which being Caled It is ordered the Sheriff of this County Should bring the said Trigg to the barr (he being in this County Goale) whoe appeared but for that he could not procure Special baile. It is ordered he Stand comitted in the custody of the Sheriff till he procure the same or pay the plaintiff his debt aforesaid.”

“Judgment is revived to Thomas Marson against William Trigg & Ellenor his wife for Seven hundred ninety and Seven pounds of Tobacco debt & costs recovered in this Court by the said Thomas against the said Ellenor by the name of Ellenor Smoot. Ordered they pay the same to the said Thomas Marson together with his present costs.”

p. 225a, 30 Sep. 1713
“Judgment is revived to Danll: Bryant, administrator of Thomas Marson against William Trigg and Ellenor his wife for eight hundred sixty & eight pounds pounds of tobacco Debt and Costs Recovered against the said William & Ellenor at this Court by the said Marson. Ordered they pay the same together with present costs.”

p. 227 1 Oct. 1713
“Augustine Higgins brought Suite at August Court Last against John Veale and declared against him for shooting and killing with a Gun loaded with powder & lead a bald faced mare..... of the value of one thousand pounds of tobacco .....to the damages of the plaintiff two thousnad pounds of tobacco..... find for the plaintiff damages one thousand & one hundred pounds tobacco.... John Veale prayed an appeale to the ninth day of the next General Court which is granted, he entering into bond to prosecute his appeale....Francis Spencer security for the appellant.”

“William Smoot being summoned as an evidence in the Suite depending between Augustine Higgins plaintiff and John Veale defendant on behalfe of the plaintiff and haveing attended tenn days by his oath, it is ordered Augustine doe pay him four hundred pounds of tobacco for his attendance with costs.”

“William Trigg being summoned as an Evidence in the suite between Augustine Higgins plaintiff & John Veale defendant on behalfe of the plaintiff and haveing attended eleven days as appeared by his oath, it is ordered Augustine doe pay him four hundred forty pounds of tobacco for this said attendance with costs.”

(Note: John VEALE is brother of Eleanor (VEALE) SMOOT. William SMOOT, is her step-son, from William SMOOT’s first marriage. William TRIGG is her second husband.)

p. 327a, 26 Sep. 1717
“Mary Smoot orphant of Wm. Smoot deceased makes Choice of John Veale to be her guardian, Which is allowed of by the Court the said Veal giving bond & security for the trust reposed in him and It is ordered he be thereupon possessed with his pupil’s Estate.”

(Note: John VEALE uncle to Mary SMOOT.)

“A deed of gift of goods and Chattells made by Ellenor Smoot (now Trigg) to her son John Smoot proved by the oaths of three of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be Recorded.”

“Ellenor Trigg Relict of William Trigg deceased came into Court and made oath that the Said William Trigg departed this Life without makeing any Will So farr as Shee knows or believes and Upon her Motion Certificate is granted her for obtaining Letters of Administration, on the said deceased Estate in due form John Veale assuming to be security for her faithfull Administration according to Law. And It is ordered that Lawrence Pope, Benja: Waddey, Robert Sanford and Wm: Melvin or any three of them.....value & appraise the said estate.”
