Smoot to Lovell and Pennybacker - Bill of Sale |

         Know all men by these presents that I James H. Smoot of Shenandoah County for and in consideration of the sum of fifty dollars in hand paid the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged by Charles U. Lovell and Joel Pennybacker have given, granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do give, grant, bargain and sell to the said Charles U. Lovell and Joel Pennybacker, his heirs and assigns one bed, bedding and bedstead, one bureau, one walnut table, ½ doz. black chairs, one pine table, one tin bucket, one axe, one iron pot, one Dutch oven, one pan shovel and tongs, one grid iron, one pair blankets, three shirts, together with sundry household and kitchen furniture now in Alexandria but expected here in a few weeks. To have and to hold to them the said Charles U. Lovell and Joel Pennybacker, his heirs and assigns to his and their only proper use forever. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this first day of July 1823.
