Prince George’s County, Province of Maryland was established in 1695 from 1695/6 from Charles & Calvert Cos and unorganized territory. Frederick County, Maryland was organized from Prince George’s and Unorganized Territory in 1748.
19th Apr., 1703; 6th Nov., 1705. Will of William BARTON, of Prince George’s Co, MD. To wife Sarah, extx., dwelling plantation -- and part of “The Exchange” adjoining sd. plantation, also use of “Perrywood” during minority of dau. Katharine, and testator’s part of “The Exchange.” To dau. Katharine, land as afsd., at majority. To dau. Sarah and hrs., lands in possession of father, Wm. BARTON, adjoining Zachiah Swamp, also 100 A., “The Addition,” also 300 A. on n. side Swanson’s, alias Fradsham’s Creeke, formerly part of Hugh STANLEY’S land. To Thomas GANT and hrs., 100 A., part of “Barton’s Hope.” To dau. Sarah afsd., residue of “Barton’s Hope.” To son-in-law Bazill WARING, 300 A., part of “Hadlow” in Chas. Co.; to revert to wife Sarah should he die during minority or without issue. To son-in-law Marsham WARING, to cousin Elizabeth SMOOTE, and to John WARREN, personalty. To wife Sarah and child. afsd., residue of personal estate. Child. to be brought up in Church of England. By codicil dated 19th April, 1703, testator devises to John Nathan SMOOTE and his brother William, 400 A., “Barton’s Hazard” on n. side Zachiah Swamp, provided they make over to their brothers Thomas and Charles SMOOTE, 400 A., -- bequeathed them by their father Thomas SMOOTE; otherwise sd. “Barton’s Hazard” to go to daus. Katharine and Sarah afsd. Also devises certain personalty to sister Margaret HUNGERFORD. Trustees, in event of death of wife during minority of child., Thos. BROOKE, Thos. GREENFIELD, John WIGHT, Col. Walter SMITH, Samuel QUEEN and Thos. SMOOTE. Test: Thos. GREENFIELD, Benjamin BERRY, Jno. WARREN. (3. 643. Calendar of Wills: Volume 3, p. 62)

21 Feb 1729 - 2 Jun 1730 Maryland Probate Records. 15.511. John ATHEY (planter). Prince Georges County. L19.11.11. Appraisers: George DIXSON, John HARRIS. Creditors: John EDGAR, James WAEMS. Next of kin: Thomas ATHEY, Gor. ATHEY. Administratrix/Executrix: Margaret ATHEY.

1732 John SMOOT patented “Bell’s Design,” 100 acres; and with J. COLLIER and J. HOLMARD, patented “Partnership,” 50 acres; and “Elizabeth,” 50 acres, all in Prince George’s County. (Newman, p. 124)

25 Mar 1734 Maryland Probate records. 12.215. Accounting of estate of John ATHY. Prince George’s County. L19.11.11. L13.16.3. Heirs: children (both of age): John and Mary. Administratrix: Margret SMOOT (also Margaret SMOOT)

20 Mar 1738 John SMOOT conveyed his share in the two tracts “Partnership” and “Elizabeth” to James HOLMEAD. Witnesses: John BEALE, John HEPBURN. No release of dower. (Newman, p. 124).

1740-1741? Estate of John SNOW, deceased. Prince George’s County. Administration to Mary SNOW, John SMOOT and Thomas CHARTER, bondsmen (Newman, p. 124)

26th May, 1744; 30th Aug., 1744. Will of James TRUMAN, gent., Prince George’s Co., To bro. William HOWARD, sisters Elizabeth and Sarah HOWARD, neph. Henry SMOOT, niece Susanna, and neph. James, personalty. To neph. Thomas, entire real estate. Shd. he die without issue, to pass to neph. James. To bro. Henry, ex., residue of estate. Test: William BRIGHT, Benj. SWAN, John BOOKER. 20 Oct 1747 - 25 Nov 1747. Will of John SMOOTE of Prince Georges County, planter. To son, John, 100 acres of “Seall’s Desire” [“Beall’s Design” per Newman]; to son Edward 100 acres of “Crumford;” to wife, Mary her thirds; to daughter, Mary, stock. Wits: Solomon STINTON, James HARRISON, and Thomas BIRDWISTLE. (Maryland Calendar of Wills, Vol. 9, p. 125)

12 Apr 1748 - 28 Jun 1748. Maryland Probate Records. 36.140. L464.14.3. Inventory of estate of John SMOOT, deceased. Prince Georges County. Michael JONES, Moses PIMMETT. Creditors: William NORRIS, William CAMMELL [CAMPBELL]. Kinsmen: Jeremiah NEAL, Nathaniel EDWARDS [Matthew EDWARDS per Newman]. Executrix: Mary SMOOT.
The will of Thomas DAVIS of Frederick County, Maryland, planter, dated 16 Feb 1753, proved 17 Mar 1753, included directive that if wife, Elizabeth, dies before son, James DAVIS reaches his majority, that Matthew EDWARDS is to take both son James and slave Frank. The will is witnessed by Jeremiah NEAL, Mark EDWARDS and James EDWARDS. (28.491). The inventory of Thomas DAVIS, executrix, Elizabeth DAVIS, lists Matthew and Mark EDWARDS as next of kin (58.100), The will of Roswell NEALE of St. Mary’s County (24 Mar 1751-7 May 1751) names son, Jeremiah NEALE, but there was also a much earlier Jeremiah NEALE in the records of Talbot County (1720s).
15 Apr 1752 Accounting of Estate of John SMOOT of Prince George’s County. 32.137. L139.05. L27.9.4. Payments to [includes]: William CAMPBELL, Lord Baltimore paid to Colmore BEANS on account of Nicholas DIGGES; Jacob UTLEY; William MORRIS; Osborn SPRIGG; Peter DENT; Daniel DULANY, Esq. paid to Osborn SPRIGG. Executrix: Mary FLETCHELL, wife of Thomas FLETCHELL (of Frederick County).
Newman (p. 124) adds that Mary’s sureties were John CROMPKIN and James HARRISON, and that in Jun 1755 John SMOOT, Jr. petitioned the court stating that Thomas FLETCHELL had the estate of Edward and Barton SMOOT in his hands and “is now going to move to Carolina,” therefore prayed partition of the estate on behalf of the two orphans.
