Testing Process
The Kit
The Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) company will send you a small packet which contains two little brush-like scrubbers,
two little bottles with a small amount of liquid and a consent form. Take one of the scrubbers and rub the inside
of your cheek for 60 seconds. You want to get some cells from inside your cheek, not just saliva. Then put the
scrubber in the bottle and push on the end of the stick to separate the scrubber from the stick. Be sure to put
the cap on securely. Wait at least 8 hours and do the same with the other scrubber. Remember to sign the consent
form and send it back with the small bottles in the envelope they include in your kit.
The Wait
It usually takes about 4 - 6 weeks to get the results back from the lab. FTDNA will contact you by
e-mail when your results are in. You can check on the progress of the testing process by entering your kit number
and password on the FTDNA webpage. The company will also mail you your results and certificate of authenticity.
